Check out this creator Nomadic Nostoc who explains the fascinating microscopic creatures, the AMEOEBA, the oldest of which were discovered 400 million years ago. If you are forgetting the deets of human history, the fossils of Homo habilis. (or Handyman) appeared in Southern and Eastern Africa 1.9 million to 2.4 million years ago (depending on who you ask). Technically these guys can get into your body and cause some pretty bad disease – think really bad stomach flu and the super scary one Naegleria fowleri also known in the media as the Brain Eating Amoeba is technically not a true amoeba that changes shapes but since this microscopic monster and the stuff of nightmares sports a flagellate (the tail like structure that allows it to act like a guided missile to its target).

But don’t worry too much, most amoebas are beneficial killing off bad bacteria and decomposing matter (mostly) in fresh water and some salt water environs.
